Strength, Weakness, Opportunities & Treat analysis (SWOT) of the department:

Strength: The faculty members are well qualified and fully committed to the overall development of the department and strengthening the academic performance of students. Apart from regular classroom teachings, the department also takes initiative to provide individual instructions from time to time as per the requirements of students to enhance their academic growth. Teachers build good rapport with students to encourage them in attending the classes and to also improve their academic performances.

Faculty members regularly attended Orientation Programmes and Refresher Courses conducted by universities in order to update their knowledge and to develop new skills and methods or ways to improve their teaching performance. Teachers and students from the department also continue to participate in co-curricular activities such as NSS, NCC, Games and Sports, Annual sports, dance, songs, etc.

Opportunities:

  • Availability of reading/study materials in both Bengali and English medium.
  • The department provides ample opportunities to students to showcase their various abilities. Students are given the exposure to departmental seminars, presentation and group discussions for their all round personality development.
  • Teachers are readily available for students any time outside the classroom to discuss any types of queries and discussions.
  • Faculty members, in this pandemic situation adopted ICT-enabled teaching learning via- Whatsapp Group, Google Meet, Google Classroom, etc.
  • A good number of passed-out students have the opportunity to get admission in M.A and B.Ed. courses in universities or other institutions owing to their good academic results.

Weaknesses:

Despite the many strengths and opportunities, the department also has a number of weaknesses.

  • One of the main weaknesses of the department is insufficient number of the faculty members.
  • Few students are still performing very poor in their university examinations despite the great efforts of teachers to improve them.
  • High number drop-out rates during the course.
  • Challenges:
  • Many parents are not well educated and are not giving proper attention and support to their children’s studies. This has led to poor performance of the students and sometimes, drop-out of students.
  • Some students do not pay full concentration to their studies due to various factors including socio-economic problems.
  • It is a challenging task for the department to encourage students and minimize the drop-out rates.

 Future plans:

  • to organize different levels of seminars at regular intervals.
  • to apply for research projects under ICSSR/UGC.
  • to mould the students to contribute their valuable knowledge in the field of education by pursuing research studies.
  • to continue providing special care to the students by regularly conducting unit tests, group discussions, extra classes, etc., for their personality development and quality enhancement.
