History

About department:

The Department of History, Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya, came into being in 1951 as a second oldest college of Tripura with UG Pass Course and it started honours course in 1966-67. At present the Department has the intake capacity of honours course is 60 seats. Semester and choice based credit system runs here from 2014. The department here is being proud to say that at present majority of the students of the college belong to History department. The Interdisciplinary courses involved in HAC (BA 2^ND Sem. Foundation Course) and SS3 (Human Rights and Gender studies). No of 5 (five) faculties now giving services in this department, three Post Graduate teacher and two Guest faculties. The head of the dept. is Mr. Atulesh Das. Present student’s strength in the Department are- 1035 in 2020-21. Evaluation system is conducting University examinations and various types of tests like viva-voca, Assignments, Projects, seminar etc. in every Semester.

 (a)The ex-student of History department No. of 1 Ph.D, 6 M.Phill, and 4 SLET/SET qualified within last 10 years.

(b)The student of the department Jahir Ali participated in many State and National level Kho Kho  Championship in various state of India and International Chess competition.

Strength,Weakness, Opportunities and treat  analysis SWOT of the department:

Strength:

• Most of the students of the dept. are Active & punctual,
• Majority of the college Students are belongs to the History dept.
• Interaction between Students and Teachers are well,
• Students extra curriculum activities are satisfactory,
• Teachers of the Department are energetic, sincere and devoted to the cause of students.

Weakness:

• The majority of the students come from Poor Socio- Economic background.
• Poor communication skill in both verbal and non- verbal.
• Inadequate number of faculties,
• Shortage of classroom and ICT base classroom,
• Absence of Asst. and Associate professor of the dept.
• More drop-out students.

Opportunities:-

History is a job oriented subject as it is included in various competitive examinations all over world. After completing the course, a student can get employment in various sectors like tourism, journalism, State Departments, Archaeological Survey of India, museums, law, civil services, where he/she can work as a professor, archivist, heritage manager, museum education officer, civil service etc.

Future plans:-

• Organize more national, International and dept. seminar, workshops, popular talks and select the best ones publication.
• To establish a Mini Museum/Archives.
• To train the students for job opportunities.

For improvement of the department we need adequate no of Asst. and Associate professors, arrange sufficient classroom and ICT base classrooms for the students. Also we need for all the PG teachers Refresher/Orientation type training program to improve our teaching quality and betterment for the students.
